HIKING FOOD PACKAGES
Have the gear but short of time? Skip the hassle - we'll deliver a personalized hiking food package to your door before you go.
A delicious and easy to prepare food package put together just for you with local foods which are full of great taste and satisfaction, nutrition, and minimal waste helping you pack out as little trash as possible. We have kept most food items lightweight, however if this isn't your style you can choose our heat and eat meals which weigh just a wee bit more.
We will deliver your food package to your accommodation in Queenstown or Te Anau the day before you start walking the track. Cooking/eating utensils are not included in the food package (unless you have booked this as part of our handy Essentials or Premium Packages). To prepare your food you will need a pot/billy to boil water. (Gas cookers are provided for your use in the Great Walk huts however no other cooking/eating utensils or plates.)
While we do mix things up a little and choose foods best suited, the information below gives you an excellent idea of what you will be eating along the way in our food package.
Breakfast – Tasted our good ol’ kiwi porridge? A classic kiwi tramping necessity to warm your cockles before you set out. Other options include granola/muesli or scrambled egg and gluten free wraps.
Lunch – Provided on the middle day(s) of your walk. Options include bacon and egg pie or savory muffins, fresh fruit, muesli slice or fruit cake.
Snacks – Cheese, tuna and crackers, salami, trail mix, bliss balls, berry smoothie, fruit, muesli slice, sultana cake, and gingernut biscuits.
Dinner – We provide you a choice of quick, easy and most of all healthy/tasty NZ cuisine! There is a range to choose from that includes heat and eat or freeze dried (nice and light!) food. Some options include Butter Chicken, Wild Mushroom and Lamb Risotto and Thai Green Chicken Curry. Great vegetarian and gluten free options also!
Dessert – Top the day off with something sweet. Dark chocolate and other desserts to share.
Drinks - Tea (black or green), coffee or hot chocolate and fruit drink - plus water!*
Gluten Free and Vegetarian options available.
*The water along the way is generally fine to drink and absolutely delicious. Locals have been drinking it for years and there has been no indication that there are any bugs in it. However this is not guaranteed - the water hasn't been tested so drink it at your own risk. Having said that - it is likely to be some of the most pure water you can find - as long as you are sensible and use common sense when collecting it!
DAY 1

Note. the chocolate and trail mix should last for your entire walk - unless you're a chocoholic!
DAY 2
Muesli or Scrambled Egg/GF Wrap
Salami, Cheese and Crackers
Bacon and Egg Pie or Savoury Muffin and an Apple
Berry Smoothie
Tea/Coffee/Hot Chocolate and Gingernuts
Butter Chicken or NZ Beef
Apricot Crumble or Chocolate Pudding
DAY 3
Good ol’ Kiwi Porridge
Muesli Slice or Sultana Cake
Fruit Drink, Tuna and Crackers
Plus your left overs!
INCLUDED EXTRAS:
Instant soup and noodles to fill any gaps/warm up at the hut.
Additional freeze dried meal for contingency purposes.
